Gemhammer Weekly Update - So Many Things!

So Many Things!

Good Morning Wonderful Internet People!

We've missed you the last few weeks, but unfortunately things have been so busy over here, I had to choose between a weekly update and either our Wizardry Wednesday or SideQuest Saturday articles. I figured that it made more sense to give you all some story hooks and free spells more than to update about our doings on this end. But now that I have a little time, I wanted to give you all a sneak peak on what's in the pipe and what changes are happening here at Gemhammer.

Deck of Many Things update and stock refresh

Probably the number one email I get here at Gemhammer is, "When are you getting more Decks of Many Things in?" To be honest we'd been putting it off a bit. You see, in working on the Deck of All the Things, we decided to take the opportunity to update the packaging of our original decks. While it meant being out of stock of the Deck of Many Things for a while, we felt it was worth the wait. But now, dear internet people, that wait is coming to a close. I've received word that a fresh new batch of the Deck of Many Things and the Deck of Many Things 0th edition are on their way and will be delivered here on March 7th. Expect that the store will be updated shortly after!

"But Conor!" I hear you crying from the back, "What about the other decks?" A valid question. The Deck of Many More Things will receive an update later this spring, and the Deck of Even More Things will receive an update once we move through some more of the stock. With that in mind, we've put the Deck of Even More Things on sale for $8.00. That's more than 50% off!

Kingdom of Owlbears

If any of you backed our kickstarter for the Compendium of Wild Beasts, then you may know that for the last few month's we've been working on the Kingdom of Owlbears, our very first published adventure! It's our first time out with making a book and I've encountered a lot of missteps and delays that I never expected. While that hasn't been good for launching the book, it has been a learning experience and I just wanted to cover where we were and what's to come.

The book is written and we're now in the process of finishing up the layout and the artwork. Kate and Joe aren't artists so working on this as a one-man-show has proven to be a much bigger task than I originally anticipated. So with that in mind, I'm glad to announce that we've brought back Bath Vargas to help us get this project finished up. For those of you who don't know, Beth illustrated our Deck of Many Things line of cards, and we're very happy to have her back!

Our goal with the KoO is to start producing published quarterly, or even monthly adventures. Of course we're new to making books, so we've got a lot of kinks to work out, but I'm excited about taking Gemhammer in this direction and I hope you all enjoy what we produce.

Once complete, the Kingdom of Owlbears will be released on DriveThurRPG and will have both digital and print options available. I hope to have some more artwork to show you soon, and if all goes well, perhaps we will have some printed copies available at PAX East. But more on that in a future update!

Compendium of Wild Beasts Errata

It was recently brought to our attention that there are a few errors in the Compendium of Wild Beasts. The Giant Spider has the abilities of a Giant Shark and the Saber Toothed Tigers has the wrong stats. The cause of the issue is that some layers in photoshop were accidentally turned off when the deck was exported into PNG's. I'm pouring through the files to make sure these are the only instances but the card files contain thousands of layers so I apologize if I've missed anything else.

Gemhammer is committed to making More, Better, Game Stuff. I want our products to be a cut above the rest. As a small team of 4 people, it's often difficult to realize that dream and we have a lot to learn before we're 100% there. I can't go back in time and fix the decks as they are, they're printed and I have several cases of them six inches to my left (literally). However, as with the Giant Spider card, when we discover the discrepancy, we're ordering replacement cards for the Saber Tooth Tiger and we will be mailing those out to our kickstarter backers and those who've purchased the Compendium of Wild Beasts, at no charge to them. It doesn't erase the mistake, but I hope that this will at least give you the card that you need to complete the deck.

If anyone would like to discuss the issue and why this happened, please feel free to reach out to me at

Contest of All the Things Reminder

Just a reminder that the Deck of All the Things is still on preorder and if you haven't yet entered our Contest of All the Things, please do so. We've got a lot of great entries already but I'd love to see more of what the community has to offer. If you've got a spell effect you've always wanted in the deck, or that you know your players would love to see, then let us know. You might just win yourself a free deck of cards!

That's all for this week. Next time I'll give an update on some Kingdom of Owlbears artwork and maybe some PAX updates!

See you next time,
